Legal Services
O3A contracts with local attorneys to provide legal services through the Senior Legal Advice Clinic (SLAC) Programs. This program provides low-income seniors aged 60 and older one-on-one access to an attorney for an average 30-minute consultation. Attorneys are contracted on an hourly rate basis to provide consultation and advice for non-criminal or civil case matters. Topics generally include general estate planning such as power-of-attorney forms, simple wills, consumer debt, landlord/tenant and similar issues.
O3A’s Information & Assistance staff schedules the appointments and the clinics are held at one of the I&A offices, or other locations, once a month for 2 ½ to 3 ½ hour clinics depending on the location. The list of possible clients is sent to the attorney to make sure that the attorney does not have a conflict.
