Resources for Caregivers

Kinship Care Program

In Washington, 35,341 grandparents report they are responsible for their grandchildren living with them. Of these grandparents 39 percent live in a household without the children's parents present. These caregivers provide a vital safety net to children inside and outside of the foster care system.

O3A administers a Kinship Care Support Financial Assistance Program. A kinship care coordinator will contact and interview you to assess the eligibility of your needs.

Basic needs such as food, housing, and shelter are considered priorities. Other critical needs will be considered. These may include, but are not limited to clothes, school supplies, transportation, counseling, legal services and youth activities. Lower income caregivers will be given higher consideration.

There are several kinship care support groups that we work with in our region. It helps to know that you are not alone in your situation. The groups provide for an exchange of knowledge and ideas to successfully navigate the financial aid that is available as well as just be there for each other.
